Extra Curricular Adventures around the world
This is an outstanding winter trip, we've been there four times over the last five years when Northern Europe is still dark and cold! Our winter fortnight trip abroad will be all about thermalling and Xc. A positive improvement in politics in Colombia has meant it is super safe and offers great Xc routes, well trodden by the recent world championships. There should be abundant opportunity to get some Xc flying at every opportunity and get to know what is one of the most friendly and beautiful countries in South America.
All pilots and the driver have FlyMaster Gps trackers to help with quick retrieves. Our first stop will be a hotel with a pool, most of the accommodation can often be farmhouses boasting pools and BBQ facilities. Breakfast will be included in most places you just need to find lunch and dinner.
Who can come? - Pilots who have done some thermalling, conditions are generally pretty mellow, so if you've achieved some good flying with us in Algo or elsewhere you'll be joining the XC dots in no time with two FlySpain Instructors on hand to guide you
We take only 10 -12 pilots, there will be at least 2 guides helping on launch and in the air plus two on retrieve. This is the butler service of flying trips, conditions on take off are light not windy, and difficult. It's our 13th season and the feedback has been brilliant. Next tour in 2025 will start In Cali and end in Medellin, you can get direct flights to Cali via Madrid,but almost everyone goes via Bogata and a quick internal connection.
Always a tricky question, but if you can already thermal, launch confidently then you'll love any of our Xc weeks.20hrs plus or a current pilot who has made at least one thermic course abroad with half decent take off skills in at least Alpine or reverse launching. If you don't feel confident or independent thermalling then you'd be better chosing our mentor plus options
We meet In Cali, and head to a hotel at the base of Piedechince, a fine area to get some flying in, great take off, easy landings, superb thermalling and some great XC flying is to be had. Brilliant for a refresher few days. Then once settled in we move to Roldanillo, Apia and onwards to Jerico nearer Medellin. IOur base near Roldanillo gives us access to 3 different flying sites

Check availabilityWe've been running tours around the world for decades, and we've been running XC tours in Colombia touring up and down the Cauca Valley for 12 years. In that time we have found the perfect theater to teach newbie pilots how to thermal to base nd make their first Xc flights.
For the last four years, we have been taking newly qualified students to near Cali for some thermal coaching and flatland flying practice. We have everything, civilized take-off, big landing field at the bottom of the hill, and flights made directly into a flat safe big field in front. The area offers good road and retrieves infrastructure, plus we give everyone a GPS tracker and ad everyone to a big whats app group.
You are offered solid and consistent advice and coaching on thermal technique and hunting as well as air-to-air coaching from some of our best guides and instructors.
We will spend our entire time in one of the friendliest flying areas in Colombia, all our tours start here as a warm up but we will stay on as once you've mastered thermalling here, its a ideal spot to explore both the mountain rnage behind and the valley in front. Last year the SRS competiion were tasking 100k flights from and around Piedechince
We have been working with our Colombian friends fro over 12 years, we supply retrieves, site fees, coaching and accommodation plus breakfast whilst we are staying there
The weather is a consistent 25 degrees, expect smooth thermal conditions, T-shirt and shorts at cloud base, warm temperatures in the air and in the swimming pool.
