Epic paragliding tour this February in Colombia
How to dodge February in Europe
I know - let's head to Colombia, well it's not such an original idea, we have been running tours here in Colombia for over ten years. As one of the first companies to fly the famous Cauca valley flying sites, we've been exploring the area with pilots on Xc course for years.
Our routine now is to meet at Cali airport, head north to a wicked little flying site called Peidechince and spend 3 or four days brushing up on our skill set, making some nice xc flights around the valley. This year the group excelled and on their last day flew out of the valley north making a solid 100 k flight to their next destination in Roldanillo.
Excellent accommodation
The accommodation was in a beautiful finca consisting of two modern farmhouses, with two pools, ping pong, a pool table, and a chef for breakfast, just on edge of the village of Santa Elena. Our drivers Edmundo and Nelson were on hand with rides about the place by van or jeep, restaurants were nearby and the weather was epic.
Food and drink
Well, the local booze is a low-alcohol rum and a dangerous white spirit called agua dente, The food is a mix of great steaks and fabulous fruit juices and great salads and rice dishes and really cheap!. They make tidy ice cream too!
We now stop in a town called La Union which is central to both the sites of Roldanillo, Anserma, and Apia. These are further north and give another wonderful view of flying in the epic valley we know so well and allow a myriad of choices for potential Xc flying. This area has to now be the most prolific area for paragliding in the world over winter. The warmth of the people and culture plus reliable flying conditions just make it a must-do on the paragliding bucket list.
By the eighth day, everyone is looking cooked so many choose to hit the pool and siesta a little for a day before cracking on with the final leg of flying back towards Cali.
These paragliding tours have been some of the most popular tours we've ever done over winter, this year we were almost fully booked by July. This year the guys flew a full 14 days with the support of our great instructional team although some took a day off to rest in between.
